A LUSAKA man on Friday sent the court into laughter when he admitted wearing a police combat under the influence of alcohol.
Before Lusaka Magistrate Felix Kaoma was Mike Ndhlovu of Mtendere compound. Particulars of offence are that on February 25, 2019, Ndhlovu unlawfully wore a police uniform without authority.
Ndhlovu admitted the charge and told the court that he did not have authority or lawful justification to wear the uniform.
Asked by the court where he got it from, the accused person said he just found the full uniform with a cap on the road near Bennie Mwiinga police post.
Asked further why he did not surrender the uniform to the police, Ndhlovu said he wanted to do so but was restrained by the influence of alcohol.
“Nina kolewa chabe (I was just drunk),” Ndhlovu said amid laughter in the packed courtroom.
The court further heard that Ndhlovu was apprehended by police officers who found him patrolling.
Asked by Mr. Kaoma if he is a police officer, the accused person said he is not, after which the court recorded a plea of guilty and adjourned the case to Monday for written facts and possible sentencing.
