Open-air Kafue bus station condemned

BUS operators at Kafue Bus station have called on government through the Kafue District Council to put up a decent shelter, running water and proper toilets at the facility.
The operators complained that they lacked a proper bus shelter since the time they started running it some years back.
They complained to the Sun in separate interviews that they had for a long time been scorched in the sun due to lack of shelter, a situation they described as unfortunate.
“We operate in the sun everyday but pay to the council for operating from the station at the end of the day and we feel this should not be the case,” Mark Sililo, a bus operator said.
Mr. Sililo said that something to improve the situation needed to be done as soon as possible so that diseases among other problems could be avoided.
The operators felt neglected because they had been crying for a better bus station for a long time but that their cries had not been heard.
He said that the construction of a planned new shelter had turned into a white elephant because nothing serious had been seen on the project.
He said that the construction stalled and nobody knew why because there were no people to update people on what was happening to the project.
Another bus operator, Harrington Zulu said that issues of development in such areas should be taken seriously because they also empowered people with employment.
Mr. Zulu said that the need to have proper sanitation at the station could not be overemphasized.
