AN ORGANIZATION calling itself Edu Move (Education through movement) has embarked on an initiative to train teachers and sports coaches some innovations that promote school children to learn through physical activity.
Speaking on the side line of a workshop organized by company organization, Edu Move executive director Oscar Mwanga said the initiative was a learning approach that uses physical activity to promote teaching for children to learn.
He said the idea was that a child learnt through movement without sitting which made their bodies active thereby resolving issues such as obesity and also helped with blood circulation.
He further said it was a new approach which was being introduced world over where children got to integrated maths and English revision through activity.
“Children can also learn through movement, they don’t have to sit all the time, they can learn mathematics through relay, children can also do English while walking as it reduces issues such as obesity among children which are high in urban areas in Africa,’’
“It’s a new approach which we are trying to promote, its common in England, the BBC and premier league are supporting it and we believe Zambia is the first country to be adopting this.
He said as a professor, he did research in the area to which he added innovations.
“I have applications on the market which help children in England to integrate in maths and English through physical activity,’’ he said
Mwanga said the workshop held at the Olympic Development Centre attracted participants from sports NGO’s lecturers from Chalimbana and teachers from a number of schools.
