HEAVY- DUTY trucks which park in residential areas will soon face the wrath of the Lusaka City Council (LCC), public relations manager George Sichimba has warned.

Mr Sichimba said parking heavy-duty vehicles in residential streets and premises was not just an inconvenience to other residents and motorists but also caused damage to roads as they were not designed for such vehicles.

He said the local authority had intensified the enforcement of illegal parking of trucks and heavy-duty vehicles in residential streets and premises.

In a statement, Mr Sichimba said parking of trucks and heavy-duty vehicles that exceeded 4.5 tonnes or 7.5 meters in length was prohibited in residential streets and premises.

“The practice contravenes Part 3 Section 21 Sub-section 4(e) of the Urban and Regional Planning Act No. 3 of 2015,

“The appropriate places for parking such vehicles are within the industrial and commercial areas of the city,” he said.

Mr Sichimba said those who were perpetuating that kind of illegality should stop or they risked their vehicles been impounded and owners penalized in accordance with the law.

He further said the LCC Planning Authority had set June 30 as the deadline to stop accepting hard copy applications for permissions to develop, sub-divide/consolidate and change of land use.

“The planning authority launched the automation of the construction permitting system on 4th January 4, 2019. This means that clients can now access the above services online and monitor the progress online,” he said.

Mr Sichimba said clients were encouraged to make use of the automated system (metro manager) which could be accessed on the main LCC website (https:www.lcc.gov.zm).”

He said during the grace period, the local authority would continue accepting both hard copy and online applications.
