Pregnant wife faints over divorce prospects

A BOISTEROUS pregnant wife of Solwezi fainted in court after her husband made it absolutely clear that all what he wanted was to divorce her.
This is in a case in which Rachael Mukoba,36, was sued by her husband Steward Siyambani ,41 for divorce due to her uncontrollable behaviour.
Siyambani told Solwezi Local Court Magistrate Davis Kyanuwela sitting with Magistrate Jonathan Maluti and Magistrate Chrispin Mutanda that the two got married in 2015.
He said disputes between then always occurred when Mukoba took alcohol despite her being pregnant.
“It is sad because all my neighbours know our problems. On many occasions she locks me out when I come back from work only to spend nights in other people’s homes. She insults me and she loves alcohol,” said Siyambani.
He further told the court that Mukoba failed to clean the house and was fond of organising her relatives to beat him up whenever differences surfaced between them.
“When I ask this woman to clean the house she refuses to do so, then when we have any problems she calls her relatives and siblings to attack me and this has happened on many occasions,” he said.
In defence Mukoba told the court that problems in their marriage started after her husband bought a car.
“My husband has refused to support me even after he stopped me from working as a cleaner at Mema House and now has a chain of girlfriends,” she said.
She countered that her husband too was extremely unruly because each time when he got home drunk, he would start insulting her and together with her late parents.
Magistrate Kyanuwela advised the couple to refrain from excessive consumption of alcohol which he said was the root cause of breakdown of marriages these days.
He also observed that unruly behaviour women had adapted in marriages today, would one day make men run off and seek refuge elsewhere and in the process leave their wives depressed or with hypertension.
But as the magistrate was counselling the couple, Mukoba fell to the ground and passed out, forcing the court to adjourned the case to April 4 for judgment.
