A Lusaka man has been ordered to pay K1, 000 in child support by the Boma Local Court.

Crispin Masoya, 40, a businessman of John Laing compound was sued by his former wife Jane Mwale, 37, of the same area compound for child maintenance.

Mwale explained that after their marriage ended in 2011, she went to stay with her former husband after he continuously begged her.

“I stayed with him for a year but he didn’t change, we had the same disputes. The court granted me custody of the children but since then, there hasn’t been sending any support,

“I have brought him to court because I want him to be supporting our children. We have five children and two oldest ones are not going to school because he refuses to pay for them,” Mwale said.

The two were appearing before Senior presiding local court magistrate Sharon Sichone sitting with magistrate Mpundu Mwape.

Masoya said the children were staying with him in his house and did not understand why he was brought to court.

“The children are with me except the youngest. My two eldest children refused to go school and I stopped paying for them because I don’t want to waste money,” Masoya said.

“I told her that I would look for something for them to do because they had refused to go to school. It’s not because I failed to pay for them,” Masoya said.

Masoya said that he had been paying for the other two children because they were serious with their education.

“I cannot fail to support my children I have always supported and provided for them,” Masoya said.

The court ordered Masoya to pay K1000 child support and provide all their necessities.
