LILLIAN CHIKANDI WRTIES

A stray lion has been spotted in Chiawa village, in Chirundu district, causing people to live in fear and to minimize their daily activities.

A senior resident of Chiawa Leonard Mweemba informed The Sun that the stray lion had so far killed five goats, a donkey and yesterday almost killed a woman but she escaped an unhurt.

He said the matter has already been reported to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife office at Chirundu and he was hopeful that they would respond swiftly.

He has cautioned the villagers unaware of the lion’s presence to be careful and to minimise their movements.

Meanwhile, Nkandabwe ward councilor, Benzia Siamuluwa, has appealed to government, through Chirundu district, to consider grading the Lusitu-Nkandabwe road which he said was in a deplorable state.

Mr. Siamuluwa said that improving the road would help bring investors to the area.

Mr. Siamuluwa regretted that government had abandoned the Lusitu-Nkandabwe road which he said was last worked on by the United National Independence Party (UNIP) government.

The Nkandabwe councilor further said in emergency cases, people fail to move from their homes to nearest clinic which is in Lusitu ward because of the current status of the road which is almost impassable.
