Prostitute remark costs woman K200

A BOMA local court has ordered a Lusaka woman to pay a penalty of K200 for defamation of character.

This is in a matter in which Rose Makai, 31, of Lusaka West was sued by Tisa Zulu, 35, also of the same area for calling her a prostitute.

The two were appearing before Senior Local Court Magistrate Ngandwe Mukuka sitting with Martha Tembo.

Zulu explained that Makai is the wife of her former husband with whom she has one child.

Zulu said that on of March 7,  she called Makai her former husband and requested to talk to his wife.

“I called him around 06: 00 hours and he told me to wait and call after a minute. After a few minutes, using my husband’s phone I called back asking her to send food for my child,” Zulu said.

“Later that morning, she started calling me but I did not pick up. She followed me to my house and started insulting me at the door of my house,” Zulu said.

“She insulted my private parts and my husband and said I was not woman enough and still desire her husband,” Zulu said.

Zulu said Makai called her a prostitute and that she should stop calling her husband.

“The biggest problem with her is because I asked for food and child maintenance,” Zulu said. But Makai said she called her to resolve the problem but she did not pick up.

“So I decided to go to her house so that we can discuss the education of the child because it was not good for the child to keep changing schools,” Makai said.

“When I arrived there, we could not agree and had a serious argument. I asked her why she was continuously calling my husband and she told me that she can never stop calling him unless the child returns to back into her womb,” Makai said.

She said later they exchanged words and neighbours came to watch

“I admit I called her a prostitute because she said my husband leaves me alone,” Makai said.
