Pupil drowns in Katete

A 17-year-old juvenile, in Katete district, in Eastern Province, has died after drowning in the Vulamkoko stream on Friday, March 1 as he tried to swim.

Eastern Province Commissioner of Police, Luckson Sakala, confirmed to the incident to The Sun and identified the victim as Moses Jere, a resident of Samuel Village, in Chief Mbang’ombe’s area and a grade eight pupil at Vulamkoko School.

Mr Sakala said the deceased had gone to wash his cloths and take a bath, in the company of two other schools boys, at the stream around 07:00hrs.   

“Whilst there, Moses is reported to have jumped into the water but did not come out. A group of people launched a search for the body and later retrieved it although it was too late,” he said.

The commissioner said the body was taken to Vulamkolo clinic were the medical stuff pronounced him dead and his corpse was taken to St Francis Hospital mortuary.

Mr Sakala said the deceased and a few other pupils were living at school as weekly borders.
