A CHAZANGA Township teacher who deflowered and impregnated a girl has been fined K8,000 by the Chilenje Local Court in compensation.

Before Magistrate Francesca Zulu sitting with Hildah Choonya and Ackim Zulu was Gertrude Zimba, 53, of New Chilenje who sued Chrispin Tembo, 35 for deflowering and impregnating her daughter in 2007.

“He impregnated my daughter in 2007 when she still in school but refused responsibility until the child was born,

“We called him so that we could charge for the damages but he didn’t show up. When he however came up he was charged K15,000 which he promised to bring after a week but never showed up,” said Zimba

She said that after a month the baby and the girl were taken to Tembo’s place who immediately took them to Kitwe the same day.

“”My daughter came back to Lusaka after a month because she was mistreated. I had to send her transport money. The child is now 11 years old so I want him to pay for damages,” said Zimba

In defence Tembo said he went to Zimba’s place and was charged K6, 000 for damages which later went down to K4, 000 after some protracted negotiations.

“I also agreed to marry her daughter and that is why she went to Kitwe to stay at my parent’s home. I was still in school then, “said Tembo.

Tembo however said Zimba’s daughter was chased from his parent place because she acquired, the thing which made him hesitant being the father of the child.

“Every time I would call to find out about the child she would tell me that it was not mine and proceeded to insult me. She only started calling me for maintenance fees of the child after she was ditched by her lover,” said Tembo

But the court told Tembo he made a mistake by sleeping with someone else’s child and impregnating her.

“ You should have followed the right procedure, the court now orders you to pay Zimba K8,000 effective this month end,” said Magistrate Zulu”.
