Mwamelo to appeal FIFA ban

Former Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) vice president, Boniface Mwamelo, says he will appeal his lifelong ban by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

In a statement made available to The Sun sport, Mwamelo confirmed that he had received notification of his ban from the Adjudicatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee but stated he would do everything to ensure his name is cleared.

”I confirm receipt of the decision arrived at by the adjudicatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee, but I am glad it is an appealable case,” he said.

The FIFA Adjudicatory Chamber of the Independent Ethics Committee found the former FAZ vice president guilty of receiving bribes, in violation of its code of ethics.

In its decision, the FIFA Committe ruled that Mwamelo breached Article 11 (bribery) of the 2009 edition of the FIFA Code of Ethics and consequently banned him for life, from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other), at both national and international level.

The Committee also imposed a CHF 10,000 fine on the former FAZ official.

Investigations by FIFA into Mwamelo’s corruption allegations began in October 2017.
