Taps run dry in Kaunda Square

RESIDENTS of both Kaunda Square Stages 1 and 2 have expressed concern over the erratic water supply they have been subjected to for some days now.

The residents complained that there has been no explanation from Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) as to why the areas have not had water since Saturday.

One of the residents Billy Ngoma complained that the water utility company did not give them notice for any interruptions of supply.

“How can they don’t just shut down the water for days without letting us know before. We have been suffering, walking long distances to draw water from those places that have boreholes at a fee, “Mr.  Ngoma said.

He said that at times it was not easy to ask for water from those who had water because most of the times they were  not willing to share the commodity.

Mr Ngoma said that it was not healthy not to have running water in the homes especially that cholera cases had already been recorded in Lusaka.

He said that relevant authorities should always ensure that they notified the residents in case of water interruption.

“Water is life, without out it we cannot survive no matter how we tried.  It is very bad especially for us that have got babies because we need to be doing our laundry every day,” another resident Anna Phiri told the Sun.

Ms. Phiri said that it was not fair to keep them in the dark because as it stood nobody knew when the problem would be rectified.

LWSC marketing and public relations manager Patson Phiri could not be immediately reached for a comment.
