STAKEHOLDERS in the tourism sector in Siavonga should bid to host this year’s Southern Province Business and Investment Expo (SPBIE), says a local holiday organiser Rose Musonda.

Ms Musonda said Siavonga was an ideal place to hold the expo as it had best accommodation and conference facilities compared to Choma or any other town in the province

“Organizers of the Southern Province Business and Investment Expo should seriously consider giving Siavonga the opportunity to host the event as it has the best facilities in terms of accommodation and conference facilities,” she said.

Ms Musonda said the move would also afford chance to country’s second tourists capital to attract more investment into the tourism sector.

Musonda said during the UN World Tourism Organization(UNWTO) conference which Zambia co-hosted with Zimbabwe, Siavonga did not benefit in terms of marketing despite being the country’s second tourist destination, adding that the district should now take advantage of the upcoming expo to expose itself to the international market.

She called for an urgent meeting of stakeholders in the district to deliberate on issue and present the proposal to Government for consideration.

Ms Musonda further called on both the provincial administration and the ministry of tourism to support the bid by Siavonga in recognition of its contribution to the growth of the tourism sector in Zambia.

Government has set aside K1.2 million in the 2019 budget towards preparations for the Southern Province Business and Investment Expo which will take place in the third quarter of this year.
