Prophecy lands couple in court

A Man of God’s prophecy has landed a Ndola couple in court for accusing a woman of practising witchcraft.

Agnes Mungusha sued Clement Nsofu and Ruth Mulwanda, who are husband and wife, for accusing her of practising witchcraft after their pastor’s prophecy.

Ms Mungusha narrated before the court that in June last year, Ruth who was her friend, had assaulted a neighbour’s child for insulting her and the child was referred to the hospital.

She said in October the same year the child was still not feeling well and that was when Ruth’s husband confronted her and accused her of being a witch.

Mr Nsofu accused her of bewitching their neighbour’s child and that she should take the child to the hospital.

The case came before Kabushi local court presiding magistrate Mildred Namwizye sitting with Evenly Nalwizya.

“I don’t know why the two of them are accusing me of doing such a thing because the wife is actually my best friend and I decided to start worshipping with them at their church,” she said.

She said the two of them had tarnished her reputation in the community because of their accusations and that she has no peace.

In her defence, Ruth said when she was told that the child she had beaten was sick again, she decided to consult a prophet from a Pentecostal church in Ndola.

“He asked me if I had a best friend and I agreed and gave him the name. He then told me that she was the one who had bewitched the neighbour’s child. The prophet told me to bring my friend to his church,” she said.

She said she was surprised that the child who she just slapped in June got sick again in October.

And her husband said his businesses was not improving even when he started well and hence he went to the prophet with his wife.

The prophet told them that his wife’s best friend was responsible.

In passing judgment, the court ordered the couple to compensate Ms Mungusha in monthly instalments of K200.

The court further gave both parties three years to live in harmony and to be careful with the prophecies they receive from some men of God.
