Jealousy mechanic fails to fix his marriage

RABECCA BANDA writes

A JEALOUSY mechanic of Lusaka has been divorced in a local court for mistrusting his wife.

Siliya Mbewe 35, of Lusaka’s Jack compound was divorced after his wife of 12 years Gertrude Kabubi,29,of Linda compound sued him over unresolved disputes and mistrust.

Kabubi told Senior Boma Local Court Magistrate Sharon Sichone that they got married in 2008, but disputes in their marriage began when she was expecting their second child.

“When I was expecting my second child my husband started saying that the baby was not his,” Kabubi said

Kabubi said both families sat down and resolved the matter but her husband begun claiming that their first child too was not his and accused a certain man as being its the father.

“The man he accused even bought a summon for him but he apologized and the matter was dropped,” Kabubi said.

“But my husband continued saying that the child was not his. I then decided to take the child to my mother’s house but my husband’s behavior did not change,” Kabubi said.

“I have tried to reconcile with my husband a few times but things have not change a bit. I am tired of the disputes, I want a divorce,” Kabubi said.

The two have three children aged between 5 and 12 years.

In his defence, Mbewe said they were staying happily together but in 2010, he received a message concerning his first born child.

“I only heard from a friend that my wife, was in relationship with another man and that my first born could be his child,” Mbewe said.

The court granted divorce on grounds that the marriage was founded on mistrust and that Mbewe did not love his wife.

It ordered Mbewe to compensate his former wife with K8,000 and to provide all needs of their children.
