THE use of ‘Nsunko’ and other illicit substances by some pupils at Siavonga secondary school has been partly blamed for the reported rampant bullying cases at the Government learning institution.

A concerned teacher who requested for anonymity told the Sun that cases of bullying at the school has gone up following the high number of pupils taking to Nsunko and other illicit substances.

The teacher said unfortunately some of the prefects on the committee set to guard against such vices had become well known substance abusers and wondered why the school management gave them powers to discipline their fellow pupils.

“Kindly investigate Siavonga secondary school. A disciplinary committee which consists of prefects is committing a lot of atrocities against their fellow pupils,

“A case in point happened on Sunday where a grade 10 pupil was summoned and beaten by the same committee for simply putting on a knee high level skirt as she went to church within school premises,” said the teacher

According to the same source, many other cases of bullying have been happening at the school but no action has been taken against the perpetrators.

“There is too much bullying by prefects especially from those in entertainment. Just a few days ago , another girl was beaten and she went to report, to the  headmistress who told her that she was going to look into the matter but nothing happened. The girl has since decided to inform her parents about the incident,” said the source.

Meanwhile, Siavonga area Member of Parliament Darius Mulunda has called for the immediate disbanding of the Prefect disciplinary committee.

He said bullying had no place in today’s learning institutions and therefore it made sad reading that the practice has been allowed to take root at the school.

Mr. Mulunda assured the parents with children at school that his office was going to engage authorities to find a lasting solution to the problem.
