SANFROSSA MANYINDA writes

MOTORISTS in Ndeke area of Chongwe District have called on government through the Road Development Agency (RDA) to upgrade the local road to bituminous standard.

The motorists told the Sun Newspaper in separate interviews that there was need to upgrade and maintain the road as it was an alternative route to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) and  surrounding areas.

One of the motorists, Jevan Kangu of Kasisi area said that the road saved time for many motorists as they did not need to use the main airport road.

“I personally find it very easy to connect from Kasisi to Chongwe Township which is my work place every morning using this route. I don’t have to go through the airport to get there,” he said.

Mr. Kangu explained that it only took him about 45 minutes to drive to Chongwe compared to an hour and some minutes if he used the main airport road.

He said that the road which was in a deplorable state made it difficult to drive through especially in the rain season because of water collecting in potholes.

“Upgrading the road will not only make travelling easy but will also add development and beautify the area,” another motorist, Amos Lungu of ZAF airport area said.

Mr Lungu said that the area which was not too far from the airport would look beautiful and encourage people to use the road and decongest the main airport road.

He said that was how development was created in Zambia and urged  the   government to  work on the road.
