A 40 year old man in Mkushi has committed suicide after defiling and impregnating his 15-year old granddaughter.
Central province police commissioner, Chola Katanga, confirmed the incident in a statement to The Sun yesterday.
Mr. Katanga identified the victim as Rajahb Maleo of Chief Shaibila in Miloso area.
Mr. Katanga said the man committed suicide after a family meeting on Tuesday where he was accused of defiling and impregnating his granddaughter.
Commissioner Katanga said the deceased left home with his wife around 23:00hours carrying some clothes to unknown destination.
However, to the family’s dismay, according to Mr. Katanga, Maleo was the following day, around 14:30hrs, found dead while hanging under a tree.
“Police visited the scene and found the body hanging from a tree. He had used a twine rope to kill himself,” Commissioner Katanga said.
He said that Maleo’s body was handed over to his relatives to burry since they did not want a post-mortem conducted.
