A 24 year old woman of Lusaka has been fined k20,000 for causing divorce  and being married to two men at the same time.

Before Chelstone senior local court magistrate, Charity Milambo was  Stafale Zimba, 24, of Linda  who was sued for divorce by her husband Benjamin Zimba,41, of Mt Makulu in Chilanga.

Zimba sued his wife for divorce on allegation that they have been having misunderstandings in their marriage and that his wife had married another man.

He  told the court that he was charged five cows as dowry price and only managed to pay for two cows and that the marriage was blessed in church of which he provided the marriage certificate.

“Our problems started when my wife started going to Lundazi in Chipata district for business purposes. And I also noticed that whenever she wanted to make a phone call she would rather go outside the house to pick the call, so as a man I became suspicious. “

“ Her phone is always busy and I wonder who calls her every time, and I warned her several times but in vain. “

He also told court that he used to hear stories from people that his wife had a man who usually came home with a car to pick her up before they went on separation.

Court also heard that after hearing stories about his wife and getting proof,  he decided to cut ties.

“ I just want to divorce my wife because she’s now under another man’s care,” he said.

In her defense, the defendant told court that, her husband chased her from the house and so she went to Lundazi to stay with her parents.

“ I stayed there from February to June, 2018 waiting for him to call me back home but to no avail, that’s when I decided to send him a text to say he was free to marry another woman  .”

“ Am now married to another man and he already paid bride price”

The court then found the defendant guilty and charged her K20,000 to pay her ex husband effective 28th February 2019 in instalments of k1,000 per month.
