ABANDONED! Divorced Siavonga parents desert children

Oliver Samboko writes

THREE smalll children have been abandoned and left to fend for themselves by their divorced parents in the resort town of Siavonga in southern province.

A neighbour, Milton Muyeyi has narrated to the Sun in Siavonga that the boys aged between 6 and  10 have been staying on their own after their parents divorced last year.

Mr. Muyeyi said the kids have only been surviving by the grace of God and help from neighbours and other well-wishers from the time the parents disappeared last year after a misunderstanding.

”After the parents divorced, they both left the children to fend for themselves. Without the help from   neighbours and other well-wishers, these children would have already starved to death,” he said.

He called on government through the department of social welfare to come to the aid of the children before it was too late,  adding that the boys are spending nights on empty stomachs due to lack of food.

Mr. Muyeyi said authorities must also ensure that the parents  are found and brought to book for negligence.

He identified the father of the three kids only as Peter Joster who is believed to have shifted to one of the islands on Lake Kariba where he has allegedly  remarried.

The neighbour said the boys have been surviving with the help from good Samaritans but that now neighbours had given up as they can no longer contain the pressure of keeping children that are not theirs.

Another neighbour Janet Hamaluba has urged police to launch a manhunt for the parents so that they could face the law for abandoning the young children.

She said parents must be responsible for the children they bring on earth adding that was evil for the two parents to abandon their innocent children.
