THE issue of ‘smelly’ Chipata Level One hospital incinerator erected near a house of one of the residents can only be resolved by the ministry of Health, says Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) corporate affairs manager, Ireen Chipili.

Ms Chipili however confirmed having received a letter of complaint from Mr Kennedy Makukula over the hospital’s incinerator positioned near his house which produced foul smell and smoke much to the discomfort of his family.

“Yes we can confirm  having received a letter of complaint from Mr Makukula over the hospital incinerator which is near his house,” said Ms Chipili.

Ms Chipli said as an agency, it visited Mr Makukula’s home to access the situation on receiving his letter of complaint.

In an interview with The Sun, Ms Chipili said they further wrote to the Ministry of Health through the district’s health office to give guidance over the matter.

“We do acknowledge that as ZEMA we received the letter of complaint last year from Mr Makukula and we stamped on it. And we did write a letter to the Ministry of Health,” she said.

Ms Chipili did not disclose what was written in the letter to the ministry, and advised that The Sun to find out from the ministry what measures they had put in place to address the concerns of Mr Makukula because a tangible action should come from them.

However, Mr Makukula said he was not aware that ZEMA had responded to his letter and was not aware of the contents of the letter.

Meanwhile a cross section of people has supported Mr Makukula and has called on the ministry to quickly resolve his problem with the urgency it deserved.
